DESCRIPTION:This research examines environmental risk vulnerability and co
 operation from the perspective of reconstruction in post-conflict areas. U
 sing examples from the Balkans and sub-Saharan Africa\, concepts from disa
 ster risk are expanded and refined to fit violent conflicts\, including ho
 w redevelopment aid needs to take account of the particular environmental 
 vulnerabilities that exist after conflicts. The role of scientific evidenc
 e in policymaking is also addressed\, and how traditional categories of se
 curity can and need to be redefined in order for proper reconstruction pat
 terns to take shape.\n
