DESCRIPTION:In this talk I will introduce myself and my new research group
 . I will cover my research background in biomedical optics and discuss som
 e of the key techniques\, such as near-infrared spectroscopy\, which I dev
 elop to monitor the brain in a range of scenarios\, from newborn intensive
  care to evolutionary neuroscience. I will outline the goals of my new lab
  and discuss plans for the future.
