Polymers - Dr Andrea Codolini\, CUED

DESCRIPTION:Mineral-filled polymers are the candidate materials to manufac
ture structural safety components of motor vehicles due to the remarkable
combination of price\, density\, and toughness. The initiation of void for
mation enhances their energy absorption capabilities to minimise the destr
uctive consequence of unavoidable collisions. Although several constitutiv
e models have been implemented in finite element solvers\, very few are cu
rrently used by CAE engineers to design the next generation of sustainable
cars due to their extensive experimental and numerical costs. The seminar
will present a new elastic-viscoplastic constitutive model that efficient
ly simulates the mechanical behaviour of mineral-filled polymers when subj
ected to multi-axial stress states at different strain-rates.\n\n
