DESCRIPTION:The ubiquity and diversity of the exoplanet population suggest
s that planet formation is an efficient process. However\, the theoretical
road from dust to planets is all but rocky. Dust grains immersed in a gas
eous protoplanetary disk face several challenges in growing into planetesi
mals and beyond. I will present recent work on dust-gas interaction in pro
toplanetary disks\, including the effect of hydrodynamic turbulence on dus
t settling and the streaming instability for planetesimal formation. I wil
l also discuss how newly formed planets interact with 2D and 3D dusty disk
 s. Finally\, I will showcase a new effort in combining hydrodynamic simula
tions with artificial intelligence to find hidden planets in observed prot
 oplanetary disks.
