DESCRIPTION:Fiber Optics - Principles and Areas of Use\n\nModern computing
heavily relies on networks to communicate between\nnodes all around the g
lobe at the speed of light. It takes online a\ncouple of clicks to send a
huge amount of data to a distant location\nand we often take the service o
f the network for granted and don't\ngive it another thought. What is actu
ally going on behind the scenes\none may ask and this talk tries to give a
pointer in the right\ndirection. The use of light as a carrier wave provi
des us with the\nbandwidths we are accustomed to and Fiber Optics allows u
s to direct the light beams to their destination. I will cover the modulat
ion of\nlight\, the physical principles behind fiber optics\, and a short
note\non where this technique is used nowadays and how dependent we are up
 on it.
