DESCRIPTION: Gravity and Quantum Field Theory are our very successful fram
 eworks that were developed and tested during the 20th century. However\, g
 ravity has resisted its marriage with quantum mechanics giving rise to man
 y difficulties\, problems\n\nand paradoxes over the last fifty years. Stri
 ng Theory entered the picture as a (quantum) framework\, distinct from Qua
 ntum Field Theory\, with the promise to provide a quantum theory of gravit
 y\, which it did\, for energies well-below the Planck scale.\n\nString the
 ory\, changed in many respects the way we look at gravity and space-time. 
 Its most radical\n\navatar\, the AdS/CFT (or holographic) correspondence\,
   turned the tables completely and gave a revolutionary view of gravity\, 
 quantum field theory and the nature of space and time. We are only startin
 g to fathom and decipher this new point of view.
