DESCRIPTION:We all know about examples of mathematicians misbehaving in fi
nance\, and\neven being jailed as a result: Tom Hayes and Ke Xu are two ex
amples. But\nmore subtle are the modelling tools mathematicians produce. M
athematical\nmodelling is ubiquitous in understanding the way the world wo
rks\, from\nfinance to physics to climate patterns. Understanding how to d
evelop and\nuse a model\, as well as its limitations\, and the way it inte
racts with\nthe world\, is indispensable in preventing it from causing har
m.\nUnfortunately\, as we saw in the financial crash of 2007\, such models
  are\nsometimes poorly understood\, with devastating consequences.\n\nFor
