DESCRIPTION:Mathematicians have always played a central role in the making
\, and\nbreaking\, of cryptography. We also play a key role in developing\
nsurveillance tools\, both for state actors and private organisations.\nTh
us\, we have several ways of enabling the infringement of the privacy\nof
others. We can do so deliberately\, by designing tools to break strong\nen
cryption\, or indirectly\, by creating systems and platforms which\ncollec
t massive amounts of personal data of individuals. And we can do\nit accid
entally\, by being careless or sloppy in the way we store the\ndata of oth
ers. In all of these cases\, our work determines how much\nprivacy people
can have.\n\nFor more information about this series of discussions\, pleas
