DESCRIPTION:On October 25th\, Chileans voted to write\, for the first time
in their political history\, their new constitution. The constitutional c
onvention in charge of composing the new carta magna will be formed by 155
elected members\, and will be the first in the world to achieve complete
gender parity. The upcoming constitutional process aims to heal the deep d
ivide caused by forty years of neoliberal policies that increased social i
nequality. Yet\, the new constitution will also need to address the ecolog
ical challenges that climate change and an extractive economy pose for the
future of the country. The presentation will discuss - from a political e
cology perspective - the main challenges and debates that are taking place
at the moment within academia\, civil society and the corporate sector.
