 \nIn this talk I will discuss some of the many varied phenomena that owe t
 heir existence to impacts.\nWe will see how giant impacts can grow planets
  and result in the existence of our own Moon and the strange composition o
 f Mercury\, and how to smaller but no less important impacts can alter the
  mass and composition of atmospheres on our own planet and others\, potent
 ially delivering vital ingredients for the emergence of life.
