DESCRIPTION:A Digital twin is a computer-aided platform that virtually rep
resents the working of an industrial asset. While remote working has becom
e the social norm\, digital twins will play a major role in the operation
of future industries. Its framework helps to bring an industrial process o
ut of the four walls of a laboratory to perform experiments\, modification
s\, analysis\, prediction and diagnostics without requiring its physical f
orm. In this presentation\, we explore how the field of systems and contro
l can contribute to building a digital twin. In particular\, we investigat
e how to build a digital twin for processes that evolve over time as well
as space. The digital twin is built on the basis of a) a modular modelling
framework\, b) a scalable computational tool and c) relevant usage of dat
 a. This presentation demonstrates how fundamental research on systems and
control can be bridged with the development of a digital twin that can be
applied to a commercial assent and improve its performance.
