DESCRIPTION:Photosynthetic light harvesting in plants is regulated by non-
photochemical quenching (NPQ) mechanisms that safely dissipate excess abso
rbed sunlight. There are several types of NPQ\, and they operate on differ
ent timescales in response to daily and seasonal changes in light intensit
y that occur in nature. We are using molecular genetics and ultrafast spec
troscopy to understand how NPQ mechanisms work in plants and algae\, with
the aim of using this fundamental knowledge to alter NPQ kinetics and ther
eby increase photosynthetic efficiency and crop productivity.\n\nContact r
eception@plantsci.cam.ac.uk for a Zoom link prior to a talk if you are not
on our mailing list. Due to having to go onine\, we are restricting the t
alks to University of Cambridge and alumni to keep them as informal as pos
 sible.
