SUMMARY:Light Regulation of Plant Development: From Mechanisms to Applicat
ions - Prof Kerry Franklin\, University of Bristol

DESCRIPTION:Light is a key environmental signal regulating plant developme
nt. Plants perceive different wavelengths of light using specialised photo
receptors. This information is integrated with temperature signals to cont
rol the abundance and activity of the PHYTOCHROME INTERACTING FACTOR (PIF)
family of transcription factors. PIFs regulate multiple developmental pro
cesses throughout plant development. In this talk\, I will discuss how lig
ht signals regulate plant architecture and the potential for PIF photomani
pulation to improve crop quality and shelf life in controlled environment
 agriculture.
