DESCRIPTION:I will discuss an averaging problem which is specific in modif
 ied gravity theories which\, depending on the linearity and dynamics of th
 e theory\, and also depending on the microscopic nature of the dominant ma
 tter species\, could cause the true cosmological/astrophysical solutions t
 o be very different from what are expected by naively applying the usual G
 R approach. Some examples where this issue cannot be neglected are given t
 o illustrate it.
