DESCRIPTION: A Large Ion Collider Experiment (ALICE) has been designed to
\n measure the particles produced in the heavy ion collisions.\n Its des
ign also makes it an excellent detector for minimum bias\n measurements
in p-p collisions.\n After summarising the status of detector and its com
missioning\,\n I will discuss the basic minimum bias measurements\n fore
seen in the initial period of running.\n The role of UK in ALICE programm
 e will be explained.\n\n
