SUMMARY:Targeting protein aggregate clearance pathways to slow neurodegene
ration in prion disorders - Dr Christina J. Sigurdson\, Center for Veterin
ary Sciences and Comparative Medicine\, UC San Diego

DESCRIPTION:Experimental studies indicate prion aggregates rapidly transit
throughout the central nervous system\, yet the relationship between the
prion structure and genetic modifiers that impact aggregate spread are poo
rly understood. We and others previously showed profound differences in th
e neuroinvasion of prions\, depending on the strain. Using a series of est
ablished and new mouse models to alter the extracellular matrix or the pri
on protein\, we investigated the determinants of prion propagation through
the neuron and through the CNS. \n\nChaired by Dr Raymond Bujdoso\n
