DESCRIPTION:*Abstract:* This talk will present data on the neurobiological
  mechanisms underlying psychosis from imaging studies in patients with sch
 izophrenia and bipolar disorder\, as well as from people at high and low g
 enetic risk. Data from a preclinical model that reproduces the imaging fin
 dings and the evaluation of a novel non-D2 treatment target will be presen
 ted. Finally\, treatment resistance and outstanding questions will be cons
 idered.\n\n*Biography:* Oliver Howes is Professor of Molecular Psychiatry 
 at the Institute of Psychiatry\, Psychology and Neuroscience\, King’s Co
 llege\, London and Programme Leader at the MRC London Institute of Medicin
 e\, Imperial College\, London. His clinical work is as Consultant Psychiat
 rist at The Maudsley Hospital\, where he runs a service for people with ps
 ychoses. His research interests centre on the causes and treatment of affe
 ctive and psychotic disorders. His recent work has focussed on understandi
 ng the role of dopamine and neuroinflammation in the development of psycho
 sis\, the effects of antipsychotic drugs\, & the causes of cognitive impai
