SUMMARY:The Energy Transition in industry and its impact on earth science
 careers - Sir Mark Moody-Stuart
DTSTART:20210301T170000Z
DTEND:20210301T180000Z
UID:TALK156463@talks.cam.ac.uk
CONTACT:James Craig
DESCRIPTION:The talk will look at the challenge of the energy transition f
or the oil and gas industry and the probable changes in il and gas demand.
Even with flat or declining global demand there is likely to be demand fo
r development both to replace production reduced by depletion of conventio
nal fields as well as by the need to reduce the cardon intensity of produc
tion profiles. The possible development of oil prices and the probable gro
wth in market share of low cost producers will be discussed. There will be
new applications such as carbon capture and storage and production of hyd
rogen for difficult to decarbonise parts of the economy. There will be str
ong growth in demand for mined metals. There are changing opportunities fo
r earth scientists of all backgrounds.\n\nThe session will be half present
ation\, half Q&A/discussion\; attendees are encouraged to raise whatever s
 ubject they wish.
LOCATION:The talk will be held virtually over zoom. The link will be circu
