DESCRIPTION:The offshore wind sector has experienced significant\ngrowth i
n recent years. This has led to the\ndevelopment of super-large wind turbi
nes\, which\nrequire ever larger foundations. Monopile sizes have\nbeen gr
owing\, meaning the design approaches used\nfor them are no longer relevan
 t. Estimating soil-structure\ninteraction stiffness (and mass) is becoming
\nmore challenging\, and is paramount to safe design.\nThis talk presents
an overview of a finite-element\nmodel updating approach to estimate the s
tiffness\nand mass of vibrating piles using frequency response\nfunctions.
The approach can be used to develop\nreference damage detection models or
to estimate\nthe operating stiffness of these systems in operation\,\nthe
reby enabling updating of design approaches.\n
