/forms.gle/SZj57FoBxTaPqYrF6\n\nJoin the Cambridge University Scientific S
ociety and Pink Week Cambridge in this scientific event to learn more abou
t the science and medicine behind breast cancer. We are honoured to have t
wo esteemed speakers – Prof Anees Chagpar and Prof Carlos Caldas – to
share about the recent advances in breast cancer and join us in a panel di
scussion to discuss about the future of breast cancer treatment.\n\nOur fi
rst speaker is Prof Anees Chagpar\, who is Professor in the Department of
Surgery at Yale School of Medicine. She will talk about how breast cancer
treatment (particular surgery) has advanced over the past several decades\
, and how it might change in the future.\n\nProf Carlos Caldas\, our secon
d speaker\, is the Professor of Cancer Medicine at the University of Cambr
idge and a Senior Group Leader of the Breast Cancer Functional Genomics La
boratory at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute. He will share abou
t his work defining the molecular taxonomy of breast cancer\, and its clin
 ical implications.\n\n\n*Prof Anees Chagpar:*\n\nProfessor Anees Chagpar i
s a Professor in the Department of Surgery at Yale School of Medicine. Fol
lowing completion of her residency and fellowship\, she joined the Univers
ity of Louisville as Assistant Professor of Surgery\, rising rapidly to As
sociate Professor with tenure and Academic Advisory Dean. She built the fi
rst nationally accredited Breast Center in Kentucky at the James Graham Br
own Cancer Center\, before being recruited to Yale in 2010 where she led t
he effort for Yale to become the first National Cancer Institute (NCI)-des
ignated Comprehensive Cancer Center in the Northeast to have a nationally
accredited breast center. Professor Chagpar will be talking about how brea
st cancer treatment (particularly surgery) has changed over the past sever
al decades\, and how it might change in the future. She will also cover la
ndmark clinical trials\, and how these have shaped what clinicians do.\n\n
*Prof Carlos Caldas:*\n\nProfessor Carlos Caldas is a Professor of Cancer
Medicine at the University of Cambridge\, and Senior Group Leader of the B
reast Cancer Functional Genomics Laboratory at the Cancer Research UK Camb
ridge Institute. He is a Fellow of the Academy of the Medical Sciences\, F
ellow of the European Academy of Cancer Sciences\, and EMBO Member. He has
published over 400 manuscripts\, including Nature\, Cell\, New England Jo
urnal of Medicine and many more. His laboratory defined the molecular taxo
nomy of breast cancer\, revealing novel subtypes and their respective driv
ers. He showed that this new breast cancer classification determines the c
linical trajectories of patients\, including their risk for late relapse.
Professor Caldas will talk about his research focus on the functional geno
mics of breast cancer\, and its biological and clinical implications.
