DESCRIPTION:Early research into the pro-social outcomes of virtual and aug
umented reality has focused heavily on their ability to create empathy thr
ough immersion. Yet\, when creating effective social change mechanisms\, e
mpathy generation alone is usually insufficient- and may even be counterpr
oductive. \n\nThis talk will outline alternative possibilities for using d
igital realities to enable the shifts in behaviour\, knowledge\, and cultu
ral storytelling which underpin successful changemaking. It will then offe
r a brief overview of my ongoing research with social innovators\, which a
ims to explore how these possibilities are being translated into real-worl
 d practices.
