DESCRIPTION:The broad aim of this project is to explore the relationship b
etween natural history and visual methods of communication through the eng
raved title-pages of early modern European printed books. More specificall
y\, my research will focus on the roles that these images played in the de
velopment of botany as a field of study\, focusing on the rise and decline
in popularity of the printed herbal in the early-1500s to late-1600s. In
this talk\, I will give an introduction to this ongoing research project a
nd a look into the types of themes that can be seen on these title-pages.
