DESCRIPTION:Big data in the urban realm has mostly been used for governmen
tal operational purposes\, i.e. improving services or allocating resources
. Yet how a city performs depends on how it is designed or planned. Often
data that lies where impacts are felt most are either ignored or remain un
identified. Siloed sectors seldom look at the cross-sectional information
to inform city policies. Especially in the rapidly transitioning developi
ng countries where urban planning\, building laws are often devised using
out-of-date data\, which systematically fails to reflect the radical devel
opments until it is too late for public policy interventions. This talk d
emonstrates how the multi-sectoral data can inform just and transformation
al urban built environment design for sustainable future cities. The semi
nar will comprise several case studies from India\, where urban engineerin
g\, citizen science and collective intelligence are used to derive context
ualized designs and policies. Broadly\, it will show\, how data-driven bui
lt environment design can effectively inform health\, desirable city-space
 s\, low-carbon pathways and well-being in cities.\n\nLink to join: https:/
