DESCRIPTION:Numerical modelling plays a crucial role in modern engineering
. It is used to conceive\, test\, and design new structures. However\, we
often find a rift between these models and their real world counterpart on
ce these are built. Often the structural properties we have in our numeric
al model do not reflect a structure’s true state (ex: construction defec
 ts\, miss-specified dimensions\, degradation\, non-elastic deformations\,
corrosion\, erosion\, etc.) The objective of solving Inverse problems is t
o systematically update our numerical model based on observational data in
a principled and probabilistic manner. In our research we work to develop
scalable methods for solving these types of problems on large finite elem
 ent models.\n
