DESCRIPTION:HydroFLEX is the pioneering railway project developed by Porte
rbrook and the University of Birmingham’s Centre for Railway Research an
d Education (BCRRE). The hydrogen powered train became the UK’s first pa
ssenger unit powered by hydrogen\, some 9 months after the launch of the p
roject. Since then\, the project has gone from strength to strength\, with
mainline testing completed in September 2020. The team is now looking at
how they can develop this technology further for passenger introduction. T
his talk by Stuart and Ross will cover: why hydrogen is required and the p
roblem it solves\; the technical details of the hydrogen fuel cell and how
it works in the train to provide the traction power\; and how the project
was implemented and why Porterbrook are behind this innovation.\n
