DESCRIPTION:Exotic stable massive particles (SMPs) which interact in a det
 ector\nare traditionally sought whenever a new collision energy is reached
 .\nFurthermore\, SMPs are anticipated in a number of scenarios of physics\
 nbeyond the Standard Model\, such as supersymmetry and theories of\nextra 
 dimensions. This talk reviews the motivation for SMPs and previous\nsearch
 es at colliders and cosmic ray facilities. In addition\, planned\nsearches
  at the LHC\, which need to address special experimental\nchallenges owing
  to the comparative slowness of SMPs\, are also discussed.
