DESCRIPTION:A popular phrase in statistics says that “all models are wro
ng”\, because statistical or scientific models often simplify reality an
d do not capture the full complexity of an observed phenomenon. In this ta
lk\, I will discuss how we can improve models by quantifying this lack of
complexity through the introduction of random terms. I will present recent
results on a classical biophysical model for cell repolarisation\, where
the additional random terms lead to biologically relevant effects\, and ex
plain how such a model can be validated on real data.
