DESCRIPTION:The standard model (SM) of particle physics encodes our curren
t understanding of elementary particles. Despite having been tested by man
y experiments to a high level of accuracy\, no significant deviations from
SM predictions have been observed so far. With the start of the Large Had
ron Collider (LHC) at CERN\, particle physics entered a new era. The most
sensational achievement of the LHC has been the detection of the Higgs bos
on. Although we may think that all pieces of the big jigsaw puzzle of natu
re have now been revealed\, our modern understanding of quantum field theo
ries tells us that the SM is necessarily incomplete and cannot be valid up
to any large scales. Moreover\, the SM does not answer a number of crucia
l questions about nature\, such as neutrino masses and the nature of dark
matter. In this talk I will show how the characterisation of the Higgs bos
on in terms of its coupling to the other particles in the SM is one of the
key elements of the fascinating question for New Physics and gives us imp
ortant clues about the fate of our Universe.
