DESCRIPTION:Quantum computers are all over the news – and rightly so: Th
 ere is a clear path towards quantum computers of sufficient size to outper
 form conventional computers at specific tasks\, such as chemical simulatio
 ns. But as of today\, the only quantum computers in existence are small an
 d noisy. Nevertheless\, in the UK and elsewhere\, an ecosystem of start-up
 s and established industry players who seek to commercialise this nascent 
 technology has been developing. In this talk\, I will discuss what the com
 mercially relevant applications of quantum computers are and which bottlen
 ecks need to be overcome to run them. I will describe some of the strategi
 es of commercialising cutting edge technology such as quantum computing an
 d turn it into a product. Finally\, I will explain Riverlane’s principle
 s with regard to quantum computing and to building a deep-tech company in 
 Cambridge.
