DESCRIPTION:I will present recent quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) calculations o
 n the 1D homogeneous electron gas (HEG)\, spending some time introducing t
 he details of the model and its experimental pertinence. I will also explo
 re several interactions that one may use to model a finite-width wire (the
  quasi-1D HEG).\n\nThe first system is sufficiently simple that understand
 ing the particulars of the QMC calculations is straightforward\, and provi
 des a good opportunity for non-QMC specialists to see an uncomplicated app
 lication.\n\nResults that I will show include the energy\, pair-correlatio
 n function\, static structure factor and (perhaps most interestingly) the
