DESCRIPTION: GSK Consumer Healthcare is in the business of supporting the 
 ‘everyday health’ of the public.  Our aim is to create new products\, 
 devices and services that can be used\, in a social and domestic setting\,
  to improve all our lives. We are interested in understanding health and c
 ondition diagnosis in order to deliver better and earlier interventions.  
 Within CAPE\, we have a focus on science and technology that helps us impr
 ove our understanding of human health and the ways it can be positively in
 fluenced. This presentation will outline our current research areas and wi
 ll provide an overview of specific topics we will target with our forthcom
 ing proposal calls under the “Systems and Devices for Health” theme.\n
 \nBiography: \nTom Watt\n\nTom is a Physicist and Systems Engineer special
 ising in developing novel technologies and products. \nIn a 27 year career
 \, he has created new ways to find nuclear submarines\, designed novel sur
 gical tools\, analysed the bowling action of the England Cricket Team\, be
 en Design Authority for the creation of a fleet of autonomous mine-sweepin
 g Land rovers\, and head of Safety Engineering for Virgin Hyperloop One.To
 m joined GSK in 2019 to work in emerging science and technologies – in h
 is own words\, “what will happen in healthcare over the next 10 years\, 
 will make it the most exciting area of development on the planet”\n\n\nA
 ngelos Echiadis:\n\nAn experienced Electronics and Systems Engineer with a
  track record stretching across IVD and Medical Devices\, Healthcare\, Bio
 medical Engineering and Physical Sciences. Highly specialised in the areas
  of analogue/digital design\, microcontrollers\, embedded systems architec
 ture and programming\, as well as in tissue optics and photonics\, in-vitr
 o diagnostics\, human physiological monitoring\, anatomical modelling\, ph
 otoplethysmography and pulse oximetry. Educated to doctoral level with a 1
 st Class Honours with Distinction BEng in Electrical and Electronic Engine
 ering from the engineering school of Heriot-Watt University (Edinburgh) fo
 llowed by a Doctoral degree in Biomedical Engineering at Loughborough Univ
 ersity.\n
