DESCRIPTION:*'Epistemologies of Land' Webcast Series – Eduardo Machicado
  – 11 June 2021 | 15:00-17:00*\n\n*Abstract:*\nThe 'Epistemologies of La
nd' webcast series will host international experts for discussions on the
epistemology of land\, ahead of a related publication which will highlight
the role of the land on\, and with which\, human relations are enacted an
d how this land affects the knowledge that is generated and brought to use
in social relations. The events are open to interested graduate and postg
raduate researchers.\n\n\n*Speaker:*\nEduardo Machicado is a Postdoctoral
Research Associate at Queen's College\, University of Cambridge and a Geoa
rcheologist at the Cambridge Archaeology Unit.\n\nHis research focuses on
how human adaptation to catastrophic environmental change has become one o
f the most relevant topics in the news today. For his PhD and Postdoctoral
research\, he has worked to bridge archaeology and environmental science.
With the generous support of the Gates Cambridge Trust\, the Board of Gra
duate Studies\, and Queens' College\, several expeditions have been set up
to gather data on the impact of early deforestation\, the development of
intensive agriculture\, and urbanisation in the prehistoric world.\n\nEdua
rdo has been particularly interested in the natural and cultural history o
f wetlands like the tropical savannas at the edge of Amazonia\, and\, in c
ollaboration with the Cambridge Archaeological Unit\, the coastal plains o
f the Fenland in eastern England. In collaboration with other prestigious
research institutions\, his current scientific work is attempting to provi
de a more nuanced perspective on the effect of climate change in economic
development and social and political conflict.\n\n*Attendance is free but
spaces may be limited\, so please "email":mailto:sjp229@cam.ac.uk to reser
ve a space in the Zoom audience. Please be aware that we will take a recor
ding of this event\, which may include any questions and responses deliver
ed by the audience.*\n\n*See the full webcast series online "here":http://
