DESCRIPTION:The number of known transiting extra-solar planets has now rea
ched 40\, enough for stastistical properties to start emerging. Due to the
nature of the transit method\, these planets all orbit very close to thei
r parent stars\, so close that tidal forces can be strong enough to modify
their orbit. After discussing the main characteristics of the present sam
ple of transiting planets\, some suggestive indications of the importance
of tidal effects on their orbital parameters will be presented.\n
