DESCRIPTION:   This presentation explores music therapy with older adults 
 and highlights its value as a psychosocial intervention for a range of age
 d-related conditions. Through video example and clinical vignette It explo
 res music’s role in working with people with dementia and in end of life
  care. It highlights the benefits of singing on well-being and presents th
 e findings of a randomised control trial that assessed if therapeutic choi
 r singing would reduce depressive symptoms and improve quality of life and
  cognitive functioning in older adults. Bill Ahessy is a senior music ther
 apist based in Dublin Ireland. He works with older adults in residential c
 are in the Heath Service Executive and with children with visual impairmen
 t and additional support needs in the school system. He is a lecturer and 
 clinical supervisor for the Master of Music Therapy at the University of L
 imerick and runs a private supervision practice for music therapists. Bill
  has ongoing research interests and has published in a number of Internati
