DESCRIPTION:This paper reconstructs the occupational structure of Dongguan
  in the Pearl River Delta Region (PRDR) since the 1940s\, using an origina
 l data source of a high school survey. This method\, namely "Oral Quantita
 tive History"\, provides us with a new perspective and evidence to identif
 y the changes in economic and social structure that occurred in the PRDR\,
  and to assess the causal role of Deng Xiaoping's reforms of 1978. The rel
 iability and correction of the data source are also discussed in this pape
 r\, via a comparison with traditional data sources such as the census and 
 yearbooks.
