DESCRIPTION:If you are making a precise measurement\, or if you are planni
ng a project\, or if you want to solve a hard problem in astrophysics\, yo
u want to make sure you are taking the best possible data\, and also that
you are getting the most out of the data you do take. I review some basic
information theory in the context of astronomy\, and then look at how it c
an be used to design good surveys\, make good measurements\, and get the m
ost out of your data. I give examples from exoplanet search\, stellar dyna
 mics\, and cosmology.
