DESCRIPTION:Our work examines behavioral approaches (e.g.\, extinction) th
at may reduce fear expression after memory consolidation. From a translati
onal perspective\, identifying whether an individual might respond well to
one intervention over another could prove important to treatment outcomes
\, so we have begun examining whether we can establish a rat’s extinctio
n phenotype prior to treatment. Direct exposure to events is not the only
way that individuals form valenced associations. Information may be inferr
ed about one’s environment through interactions with conspecifics. Our w
ork also examines factors that affect social transmission of information b
 etween rats.
