 eaker\n\n\nEvgeny Germanovich Vodolazkin DPhil (b. 1964 in Kyiv) is a writ
 er and literary critic. In 1986 he graduated from the philological faculty
  of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv\, and in 1990 he comp
 leted his postgraduate studies at the Institute of Russian Literature (the
  Pushkin House) of the Russian Academy of Sciences (St Petersburg). In 200
 0 he defended his doctoral dissertation entitled “World history in the l
 iterature of Ancient Russia (based on chronographic and Paleya Chronicle m
 aterials of the 11th-15th centuries).”\n\n\nSince 1990 he has been worki
 ng in the Department of Ancient Russian Literature at Pushkin House\, and 
 since 2012 he has been the editor-in-chief of the almanac “Text and Trad
 ition.”\n\n\nEvgeny Vodolazkin’s novel Laurus was shortlisted by the G
 uardian newspaper among the 10 best novels that deal with the presence or 
 absence of God. The novel won several awards\, including the Yasnaya Polya
 na\, the Big Book awards and the Alexander Solzhenitsyn literature prize. 
 Archbishop of Canterbury\, Rowan Williams\, dedicated his 2016 TEDxOxBridg
 e talk entitled “A Curious Novel: Postmodernism and Holy Madness” (05.
 07.2016) to Vodolazkin’s Laurus.\n\n\n\nAccording to the Russia Beyond t
 he Headlines rating of the best Russian writers\, Evgeny Vodolazkin took t
 he 25th place (the highest among living authors).\n\nEvgeny lives in St Pe
