DESCRIPTION:The linear sequence property of genetic information provides c
 ritical prior knowledge when interpreting density maps of DNA\, RNA\, or a
 mino acid chains. It follows that there are persistent gaps in our underst
 anding of biological materials that\, like the organization of lipids in a
  fluid bilayer\, lack primary sequence information. I will discuss our eff
 orts to understand the membrane-associated synthesis of chlorophyll\, incl
 uding initial efforts to falsify molecular simulations using halogenated l
 ipid derivatives as contrast agents for cryo-EM imaging.
