DESCRIPTION:Expansive clay/tropical soils are the main\nproblematic soils 
 of Africa and occur\nextensively throughout the African\ncontinent. These 
 soils\, often called black\ncotton clays\, are poor materials to employ\nf
 or most civil engineering purposes\nbecause they contain large parentages 
 of\nhighly plastic clay minerals. In many areas\nwhere these soils occur\,
  significant\ndamage to many civil engineering works\,\nincluding building
 s\, highways\, airport\nrunways\, railroads\, sewers\, water lines\nand ir
