repair - Dr Yanlan Mao\, MRC Laboratory for Molecular Cell Biology\, Unive

DESCRIPTION:During growth and development\, tissue dynamics\, such as tiss
ue folding\, cell intercalations and oriented cell divisions\, are critica
l for shaping tissues and organs. However\, less is known about how tissue
s regulate their dynamics during tissue homeostasis and repair\, to mainta
in their shape after development. In this talk\, we will discuss how diffe
rential growth rates can generate precise folds in tissues. We will also d
iscuss how tissues respond to mechanical perturbations\, such as stretchin
g or wounding\, by altering their actomyosin contractile structures\, to c
hange tissue dynamics\, and thus preserve tissue shape and patterning. We
combine genetics\, biophysics and computational modelling to study these p
 rocesses.
