DESCRIPTION:Research in my lab focuses on questions that are key to unders
tanding animal evolution: How does the genetic regulation of development e
volve and what are the genetic and developmental bases for morphological v
ariation between species. To address these questions we study the genetics
and genomics of the development of the spider Parasteatoda tepidariorum a
nd morphological evolution among flies of the Drosophila melanogaster spec
ies subgroup. In this talk I will present our analysis of spider segmentat
ion using single cell sequencing and recent results from investigating the
role and regulation of tartan in Drosophila male genital diversification.
