\nWide Band Gap (WBG) devices such as Sili con Carbide (SiC) and Gallium Nitride (GaN) have been widely considered as the next generation of power semiconductors. To unlock their full potenti al\, design of power converters needs to be revisited and modified. This t alk will introduce novel technologies in switching modulation\, magnetic c omponents\, and converter integration which transfer the advantageous phys ical properties of WBG devices into high efficiency and high power density energy conversion. Emerging appliciations enabled by WBG devices such as wireless power transfer for EVs and ultra-high power density 48V DC system s for datacentres will also be introduced\, Examples and results used for the aforementioned technologies and applications are exclusively from the Applied Power Electronics Laboratory in Cambridge.\n

\n\nDr Long is an expert in power electronics\, power conversi on systems\, electric vehicles (cars trains\, ships\, aircraft)\, electric la energy storage\, renewable energy\, smart gird. He has established the Applied Electronics Laboratory (The Long Group) in the Deptertment of Engi neering\, His research portfolio covers from power electronic devices to p ower converters to drive and power systems\, mainly for transport electrif ication and renewable energy applications. Dr Long has been awarded multip le research grants funded by the UK government as well as directly from i ndustrial sponsors. Dr Long has built strong connections with industrial p artners including the SAIC Motor\, Dynex Semiconductor\, STMicroelectronic s\, Siemens\, CBMM\, CRRC\, Wuxi SES. \n
