DESCRIPTION:Using oral history methods along with data from other sources\
 , we have been trying to uncover the reality of English teaching in the fi
 rst 15 years of a London Country Council school that was set up as an expe
 rimental comprehensive in 1946 and became noted for innovatory teaching.  
 On the basis of some 16 interviews with former teachers￼ and students an
 d a body of other evidence including emailed accounts\, we will describe w
 hat is emerging and discuss the methodological challenges that confront us
 .
