DESCRIPTION:Our understanding of planet formation is rapidly evolving. The
classical planet formation theory\, developed when the only known planeta
ry system was our own Solar System\, has been revised to account for the o
bserved diversity of the exoplanetary systems. At the same time\, the incr
easing observational capabilities of the young stars and their surrounding
disks bring new constraints on the planet formation process. In this talk
\, I will summarize the most important recent developments in the planet f
ormation theory. I will pay special attention to the early stages of plane
t formation when dust grains grow to pebbles and the first gravitationally
bound building blocks of planets form.
