DESCRIPTION:The theory of quantum fault-tolerance ensures that quantum com
puters can operate reliably in the presence of decoherence and noise. Alth
ough in principle the existence of this threshold means that scalable quan
tum computation is possible\, in practice the value of this threshold and
the required overhead are very important\, as achieving them in experiment
s remain extremely challenging. One approach to reducing these requirement
s is to use active error correction in combination with passive methods th
at provide additional robustness against instability or noise. In this tal
k\, we will explore various passive error reduction methods in different e
xperimental setups\, and will discuss how they can be thought as manifesta
tions of "quantum Zeno effect".\n\n\n\nWhere: Virtually on Zoom https://us
