DESCRIPTION:We are interested in understanding how spatial structure could
shape the dynamics of an influenza epidemic in the UK. Using designated h
uman boundaries such as counties or districts\, it is possible to construc
t a metapopulation framework containing subpopulations coupled to reflect
information on commuter movements from the 2001 UK Census.\n\nIt will be d
iscussed how this type of model can be implemented to examine the impact o
f factors such as a disease's starting point\, and how we can find the loc
ation of subpopulations that act as foci or reservoirs for infection.
