DESCRIPTION:After a brief review of the mean-field and pair-approximation
classes of epidemic model\, I will introduce an alternative type of model
that can be applied at the level of individuals rather than whole populati
ons. I will discuss some insights that this construction provides into the
classic mean-field and pair-approximation models and will briefly conside
r the potential of this methodology for representing the complexities of r
 eal-world epidemic systems.
