DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Dana Demin is currently researching for a Masters deg
ree in the spell the EDC\, following several years as an occupational ther
apist. \n\nObjective: The presentation will cover the plan for the projec
t as a whole\, and work done to date. The primary objective of the seminar
is to provide feedback for Dana. Everyone is welcome to come for the who
le evening\, but attendance is particularly encouraged for all those in th
 e inclusive design and healthcare groups.\n\nTimes: 1625 for a 1630 start
of talk (attendees are encouraged to bring along a drink of their own cho
osing) 1700–1710 Short break\, with refreshments 1710-1740 Group discuss
ion\n1800- If there is sufficient interest\, we will have an EDC social d
inner at the University Centre.\n\nAbstract: The increasing and aging popu
lation demands more inclusive design of mainstream products. This demogra
phic trend has impacted heavily on the ability of health care services to
provide the same level of assistive technology equipment as it has done hi
storically.\n\nThe Disability Follow up Survey data will be used to predic
t the number of people in the country whose eligibility for assistive devi
ces is borderline under Fair Access to Care Service guidance. Cluster ana
lysis has generated a set of approximately 30 representative characters fr
om 2500 people with mild to moderate capability loss\, as measured by the
disability follow up survey database. The cluster analysis will also prov
ide the number of people in the UK represented by each character. Each ch
aracter will be judged according to their eligibility for care\, and the l
ikelihood that this character's needs could be met through inclusively des
igned mainstream products.\n\nThese characters could also be used to help
people's understanding of the types of capability loss evident within our
society\, and what types of capability loss often occur together. The cha
racters may also be used to assess the suitability of particular products\
 , or concepts.\n
