DESCRIPTION:From the silver of fish scales\, to the blue of peacock feathe
 rs\, there is far more to the brightest colours in in nature than meets ou
 r eyes. This lecture will introduce and describe nature's use and producti
 on of colour\; outlining the results of very recent research and describin
 g the way such new understanding is being applied to modern technological 
 systems\, ranging from ultra-bright LEDS to L’Oreal cosmetics.\n\nPeter 
 Vukusic is an Associate Professor in the University of Exeter's School of 
 Physics.His work is frequently featured on scientific programs of the BBC 
 and National Geographic. He delivered the 2008 BA Lord Kelvin Award Lectur
 e and was the IoP's Schools Lecturer for 2007.
